During our next trip to Haiti (this September), we plan to build a basketball court in Saccanville. This picture below is the court that was built for our use at Pillatre. We’ll continue to use the court at Pillatre as well.

One year ago today, we were in Pillatre, Haiti. Our hearts are still there.

As we continue to plan for our trip in September, we are realizing that we need more basketballs and more basketball shoes (especially US men’s sizes 7-9 or US women’s sizes 8.5-10.5). Taking Inventory

Today (Thursday, April 12), the Hoops for Haiti leadership team met at the Hoops for Haiti storage warehouse (the garage of Jim Aubry) in Seneca, Illinois to inventory and prepare for shipment the donations that we have received over the course of the last 11 months.

Jason Sniff, Jim Aubry and Mark Aubry (pictured below) spent the day emptying boxes, counting, stacking, tying, stretching, taping, filling boxes and then stacking boxes. We have received donations from over 20 different schools and organizations, but we were only able to get through donations from: Universal Athletic based in Bozeman, MT), the University of Washington’s Women’s Basketball Team, Seneca High School in Seneca, IL, Illinois State University’s basketball programs in Normal, IL, Corpus Christi Church CYO Basketball in Chatham, NJ, Sartell High School in Sartell, MN, Armstrong High School in Plymouth, MN, Brenau Academy in Gainesville, GA and Palo Alto National Junior Basketball in Palo Alto, CA.

Adam Provance, the fourth member of our leadership team, was planning to be with us today. Unfortunately, he was instead with his mother, Mary Provance, at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Mary is fighting Leukemia (AML). Mary is a fighter, but please pray for her continued strength. You can follow Mary’s Journey of Faith, Hope and Love here.

Planning our next trip

Hoops for Haiti has begun to plan our next trip. It will be later this year (2012) and it will likely be in either late August or early September.

Stay tuned for details as to when we will next bring our message of Hope and Love through Basketball.

Waiting at Haiti Shipping Lines

We sent a shipment to Haiti from Bloomington, IL several weeks ago. It was supposed to have arrived last week.

However, it is now Wednesday and we’re sitting at the loading docks, waiting for the company to find our container so we can pick up the most recent shipment.

Another surprise was that when I went to pick up the shipment yesterday (Tuesday), the company told me I had to pay.

Hoopin’ in Haiti

On Sunday afternoon we went for a walk in Cap-Haitien with a basketball. Not far from the home of our hosts was a basketball court and hoop. It continues to amaze us how basketball, somewhat like music, continues to be an almost universal language. We were able to shoot with and play some games with several Haitian young men.
